Making the Most Out of Reading Reward Programs: Use the same mins for Multiple Programs! See my favs 👇
Summer Reading programs are ramping up, but I have to tell you, some of my FAVORITE reading programs run all school year! As a Homeschool teacher, I really appreciate the ability to spark more motivation to read throughout the school year with my kids' favorite things: pizza and ice cream! I will detail both 🍕 Pizza Hut's "Book It" and 🍦 Braum's "Book Buddy" reading programs below (bonus: Pizza Hut also does a Summer Reading program on top of their school year option-- yay for more 🍕!!). Then, be sure to keep reading further in the post for ALL the Summer Reading programs we do to make the most of the hard earned minutes of reading we do!
🍕 Pizza Hut's "Book It" : Motivate your 4-12 year-olds to read October-March with most every kids favorite food: PIZZA! As the teacher, YOU get to set the monthly goal (e.g. 20 mins of reading for 20 days, etc.), and once your child completes their goal, you get to award them a Personal Size Pizza of their very own! The website is very easy to use, and the coupon code is sent straight to your email right after awarding. OPEN ENROLLMENT IS NOW OPEN FOR BOTH 2023-2024 SCHOOL YEAR & CAMP BOOK IT (their summer reading program). See more info HERE to enroll today! Make sure to include all your eligible children at the time of enrollment-- tacking on a child later is more tricky. Also, I highly recommend sticking with it each of the months the program runs-- each child that does gets to enter a sweepstakes for BIG PRIZES. I can vouch it is worth it-- my youngest daughter won $500 in books (think homeschooling resources!) Plus another $500 for college savings from the sweepstakes last year!!
🍦 Braum's "Book Buddy": If you have a Braum's nearby, don't miss out on this one! Braum's Book Buddy allows Homeschool parents to enroll their 1st-5th graders into their reading program in the month of August (mark your calendar now, and then go HERE August 1st-- program materials are given on a first come, first served basis so act fast! Enrollment usually only last until August 31st). For every 6 books read, you can award your child up to 6 coupons in the school year for yummy treats (scoop on a waffle cone, sundaes, a kids meal, etc)! Materials are mailed to you in October, and can be reward them at your own pace throughout the school year!! We love the fun stickers and rewards chart they send for each kid, and filling out the coupons and giving it to the kids is something I really enjoy, too☺️🍦.
Now, let's move on to some reading programs happening soon you'll want to get ready for!! We love making the most out of our time reading by applying our minutes read to as many programs as we can -- if we can read 5 hours and get a prize at our library, but also turn around and apply those 5 hours to get free pizza, you bet we will!!
Summer Reading Programs I love:
Pizza Hut's Camp Book It- Detailed above. Enroll free HERE (if you are enrolling in the Homeschool program, too, you'll have the option to enroll in Camp Book it during that enrollment; otherwise, just scroll down to see enrollment for just the Summer Program)
Half Price Books Summer Reading Camp- Enrollment for this one is still to come, check back the first week of June HERE or follow Half Price Books on Facebook or sign up for their emails to get updates on when the logs can be printed. Readers in PreK-8th grade can earn a $5 certificate to be used in store for reading in June (awarded in July) and in July (awarded in August) for 300 minutes read each month. Cetifcates are only valid a short while-- so stop in with your printed log at the times detailed to get your reward for each child.
Your Local Library- tons of libraries now use the Beanstack App to make tracking minutes read for each kid a breeze! Both the libraries we are members of use this app, so we can easily switch from one to the other to track our minutes and earn prizes from each library! (We are lucky to have 2 libraries we love close by! ). You can check your local library to see if they have a Summer Reading Program, or download the app at the link above and search for your library (then you simply use your library card to setup your Beanstack account if you find your library in the search).
Barnes and Noble- sadly, there are not too many of these stores around, but if you have one nearby your 1st-6th grade child can earn a free book for reading 8 titles! Check back HERE in June to print the log (2023 log not up yet). Rewards can be redeemed starting in July until the end of August.
